“Entry-Level” Automation for a CNC Lathe (Video)

Today I’m demonstrating one of the most commonly used automation systems in manufacturing: a bar feeder integrated with a CNC lathe. When used with a quick-change, three-jaw chuck, this system allows you to cut a family of parts from 0.5 to 3 inches with unattended operation. In this example we see an LB3000 EX (one of Okuma’s Affordable Excellence machines) with an LNS bar feeder attached. Check out the video and learn:

  • How to easily go from part to part
  • Why it makes sense to use the same size material for a group of various-sized parts
  • Which types of Okuma CNC lathes can be integrated with a bar feeder

This “entry-level” type of automation is time-tested, proven and reliable. It’s a mainstay in shops across the manufacturing industry. The tremendous benefit is lights-out operation that greatly enhances productivity.

Have you experienced the benefits of bar feeder automation? Feel free to comment below and share your thoughts. You can always contact us or your local distributor to learn more about implementing automation – we’re here to help.
