KUKA Robot – The Revenge!

It’s always a fierce matchup – Timo Boll, one of the fastest table tennis players ever, vs. the world’s fastest robot, the KUKA KR AGILUS. The ultimate battle of Man vs. Machine. Who has the better technique? Timo Boll is known around the world for his ability to block, flip, and smash. The KUKA KR AGILUS has generated a worldwide reputation for it’s powerful abilities in picking and placing, assembling, loading, and unloading machines. Both contestants are extremely accurate, fast, and flexible.

The Duel

Last spring, we witnessed a grueling duel as Boll and the KUKA battled away at table tennis. Though the KUKA posted an impressive lead early in the match, Boll rallied, and came away with the win, proving man victorious. At the time it was said that the KUKA was “not the best in table tennis, but probably the best in robotics.” Could they leave it at that? Never!

The Revenge

Fast-forward to spring 2015, and the revenge game was on. In this rematch Boll and the KUKA face off for a completely different kind of duel in this jaw-dropping video. This time, there were no rackets and no balls – only glass. And instead of a paddle, the KUKA upped its game with an anthropomorphic SCHUNK 5-finger hand that grips nearly as perfectly as a human hand. The worthy opponents were both at the top of their game in a match that demonstrates the utmost in precision, speed and flexibility. Who breaks down first? Check out the video and see the shattering result.
